おかげさまで、ゲネプロとして初のオリエンテーションも無事に終了。

第1期生が一堂に会するのも今回が初めてのことでしたが、終始和やかな雰囲気の中で交流を図り、互いに士気を高めあってくれました。

この写真は、オリエンテーションの “グランドフィナーレ” を飾った徳之島民謡ミニライブの最中の一幕を切り抜いたもの。

 

「年齢、立場、人種といった些細な垣根を越えて、1つの目的の下に集ったすべての人々が一致団結する」

 

言葉にすると、何とも絵空事のように聞こえてしまいがちですが、この時、この場においては、決して絵空事ではない真実味を感じられました。

 

写真の中の光景も傍から見れば、ただ皆で歌って踊って騒いでいるだけの何と言うことはない場面に過ぎないかもしれませんが、

「このメンバーならきっと上手くいく」

そう信じさせてくれるような何とも言えない頼もしさを目で、耳で、肌で実感できた瞬間でもありました。

さて、そんなオリエンテーションの中で、個人的に非常に印象に残っている言葉があります。

「耐えるのではなく、上手くすり抜けながら前に進むんだ」

ゲネプロのために、わざわざオーストラリアから日本にまで駆け付けてくれたオーストラリアの医師であるサムが、オリエンテーション内の講演で口にした言葉でした。

「離島へき地医療」と言うと、「24時間365日、たった独りで地域を守る」みたいなイメージがありますが、そうではない。

楽しみながら。そして、どうせ海を越えるのならば、離島だけでなく、世界と繋がるGeneralist（ジェネラリスト）を目指そう。

目指すは、“International Generalist（世界を股に掛けるジェネラリスト）” だ！

 

 

Thanks to Sam Jones, ACRRM, RVTS, ROCKET+SHIP and all of the supporters for Rural Generalist Program Japan, We could complete our first orientation with no problems.

And, each of the 6 registrars proactively interacted and communicated with each other in a relaxed atmosphere, despite it also was the first time for them to meet together.

They seemed to stimulate and improve morale for the training program mutually.

 

Well, the first photo captured the one scene of “the grand finale” in the orientation. All of the participants had sang and danced along to Tokunoshima island’s folk songs.

“Let’s be united by a common goal with jumping the fence of age, status or race!”

When people say so, often it sounds just a figment.

But, at least at that time, and in that place, I felt that there certainly was genuine solidarity among everyone and was sure that “we can do anything!”.

 

By the way, Sam, who is a rural generalist and flew to Japan from Australia for supporting our launching ceremony, gave a thought-provoking word in his lecture at the orientation.

 

He said, “Rural Generalist doesn’t need resilience but flexibility to be a international Generalist.”

 

When people hear the word “medicine in remote islands and rural areas”, many of them would imagine the situation where only one doctor must take care of the whole region 24 hours a day, every day. But, that is not true, I think.

I hope all of our registrars will finally turn to “International Generalists” with enjoyment through their life as a doctor!
