愛媛県上島町の魚島は、瀬戸内海の燧灘に浮かぶ人口160人ほどの小さな離島です。

魚島診療所の医師が６月に急に辞任することになり、後任の医師を探すために悪戦苦闘する中、町長自らゲネプロにご連絡いただきました。

「どうにか今回医師が見つかったとしても、医療体制を見直さない限りまた同じことになる。目先のピンチを、住民と一緒に意識を切り替えて時代の流れに適した離島医療を探るきっかけにしたい。」

町長は少子高齢化が進む地域の未来を視野に入れた解決方法を探っていました。

 

「離島へき地で闘える医師を育てる」ことを目指すゲネプロの「RGPJ」では、現段階でここを研修候補地とすることは難しいというのが実情です。

一定程度の人口規模があり、かつ指導者の下で様々な症例を経験できる勤務環境が整っていることが、研修病院を選定する基準の1つであるためです。

しかし、「離島の住民がよい医療を受けられること」こそが、ゲネプロが目指す究極の目的の1つでもあります。

 

だから、ピンチをチャンスに、変えてみることにしました。

『Center for Remote Health in Japan』の構築案です。

 

日本の離島で働きながら、世界の離島医療を勉強できる環境を作ること。そして、全国の離島医療のあり方を導くモデルシステムを作ること。

平坦ではない道のりかもしれません。しかし、同じ志を持つ仲間たち、応援してくださる方々がいます。道は必ずや開けると信じています。

 

 

We visited Uoshima island, which is a remote island in Hiuchi-nada and belong to Ehime prefecture.

The current population of the island is just around 160; It’s a very small remote island.

 

This time, the doctor at the island’s clinic suddenly decide to leave the island in upcoming June. So, while islanders have struggled to find his successor, the Uoshima’s mayor directly contacted us.

He has been seeking for not only the replacement of the doctor; but also the fundamental solution to a chronic doctor shortage in the island where the low birth rate and longevity had been serious problem.

 

It is difficult for Our “Rural Generalist Program Japan”, however, to select the island as a candidate site for the program right now; we need a level of population and an environment where registrars can experience various cases under the guidance of supervisory doctors.

Meanwhile, “offering better health care system to the people in remote islands” is also one of our ultimate aims.

 

So, I decided to turn the tables; We propound the idea of “Center for Remote Health in Japan”.

We would like to create the system and role models that registrars can learn about the health care of remote islands all over the world in Japanese remote islands.

 

I know it will be a really rocky path. I belive, however, we definitely could achieve a goal. We have many comrades and supporters.
